Shift Breaks & Approvals
Punch Clock
All employees must ensure they are arriving in plenty of time for their shift, leaving their coats and bags stored in the staff room, clocked in and ready to start their shift for the time scheduled.
If an employee is running late for their shift. They should follow the lateness procedure.
Employees are required to clock in and out each time they take a break and clock out at the end of their scheduled shift.
Breaks during working hours
Employees have the right to rest breaks during their working day.
Management should organise the team on duty so everyone can take their allocated breaks during their shift when it is suitable to do so.
If the employee is working 6 hours or more, they are entitled to a 20 minute break.
If the employee is working 9 hours or more, they are entitled to two 20 minute breaks.
If the employee is unable to take their break, the manager on duty needs to report this to Accounts & HR with a reason as to why they were unable to take their break.
Smoking Breaks
Smoking breaks are counted as rest breaks and therefore employees should be clocking out/in for each one, regardless of how long the smoking break is for. Breaks will be automatically deducted unless correctly reported.
Lateness Procedure
If, for any reason, a member of staff will be late they must make sure they call the site they work at and speak with the manager on duty. The Senior Manager on duty must complete the Late Report procedure through Frances Charles. This can be found on your Manager Dashboard.
